TaylorMade’s New Technology!

TaylorMade’s New Technology!

In case you have been in one of those black holes where there is no internet or cell phone service (Yes, they do exist) Taylormade has introduced their latest and greatest technological innovation – the new RSi Irons.

It’s their latest reinvention of the Wilson Reflex Irons introduced in 1979.  The first was their groundbreaking RocketBladzes Irons.

I am old enough to have played with the Wilson Reflex Irons when they came out.  The only reason the technology didn’t catch on then was the Balata Titleist tended to up shoot  off of them with a tremendous amount of spin so they didn’t go as far.  Had Wilson had the foresight to strengthen the lofts they would have blown everybody away.
Wilson did, however respond to TaylorMade on FaceBook with the following picture and comment.

“In 1979, Wilson Golf introduced the revolutionary Reflex design in order to produce greater distance plus exceptional accuracy. Located behind the Reflex club face was a thin slot. During impact, this slot let the club face flex back, and it would then “reflex” forward to power the ball out at greater speed for extra distance. This flexing action added power without swinging harder.
This Wilson Reflex technology design was applied to various iron and wood models in ensuing years. This is not, contrary to popular belief, new technology.

Of course with the new RSi they have added additional slots to the face.  Can’t wait until they introduce their next model to see how many slots it has.
