Nobody is pulling for Tiger to make a Ben Hogan/Payton Manning type comeback more than I am, but the short game display that he put on yesterday has to give me pause. We frequently see a player hit a bad chip or pitch coming down the stretch, but not this many in the first round.
This display wasn't caused by his swing or layoff. This was caused by what was or wasn't going on in his head and that worries me.
Having had back surgery myself, I know how difficult it can be to adjust to it, but for months all I could work on was my short game. It got better than ever.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.
